3 Minute Presentation Video

This is the three minute presentation video which i have submitted. I think it really captured the atmosphere and concept which i wanted to portray very clearly.

Week 10 - Adding Photoshop Figures into Photos and Renders

Adding a human element into the images really allowed for a sense of scale and magnitude to be seen throughout the renders and photographs. I really like how the lighting effects the spaces and shows the emotional state of how humans will interact with the spaces provided.

I think this was a really good way to conclude the assignment as it brought everything together as a collective body of work which I believe expresses the best aspects of the work which I have submitted.

10 Best Images and Drawings

The curated 10 Images I have chosen I believe embody which I was trying to achieve through my model making practice. I attempted to expressed the details and intricacies of using the simplest of materials and transforming them into sophisticated living spaces through the use of cutting and scoring. The composition and photography of the models also allowed them to reach an elevated level through shadows and contrast. I am really happy with the work which I have made over the past 5 weeks as I believe it expresses a clear style and theme whilst following the brief of developing my own unique style.

All models were constructed at a 1:100 scale

3 Minute Recording To Back The Slideshow Presentation –

1.       The work you have done
2.      The decisions you have made about how to present information (way you made models or how you photographed them)
3.      The success of your work
4.      The challenges you faced and how you overcame them

The body of work which I have constructed for this assignment is entitled “simple complexities” because through exploration and experimentation I was able to formulate a series of paper models which represent this concept exactly. The use of the most basic of materials, paper coupled with the intricate detailing of cutting and scoring allowed me to utilise shadows, contrast and minimalism to create the photographs presented.

As you can see in my first model, I came across a challenge between finding a balance between positive and negative space. Through several experiments and additional overlays such as adding a second layer to 2 of the sides of the initial body I was able to construct a model which is both abstract but also skilful in imitating a liveable space.

Moving onto my second model, which is very different to the first, I would like to focus on one of my successes as I began to explore the utter simplicity of paper. Through just folding and making one small cut I was able to turn something one dimensional into a space where people can gain a contemporary experience.

Through the use of light and shadow I attempted to explore how curves are translated from a physical model onto camera which posed to be a very challenging experiment. Although the photographs do capture the essence of the model, I envisioned more circular shadows to be apparent in the photographs instead of the array of abstract forms which are visibly apparent.

After making these three models, I began to rethink my approach and decided to focus on simpler compositions which allow the light to enhance the simplicity and intricacy of the models themselves.

This is seen through my next model as it looks the most technical in that fact that it could act as a liveable space. I experimented with transparency in this model through the 2 skylights which further enhanced the photographs as it allowed for more light to shine into the space.

My next 2 models largely focuses on the use of light and shadow. This posed a challenge in trying to find the correct angles to place the light sources in order to achieve the most successful results, which I believe were achieved.

Both models create a human experience which enhances emotions through the contrast of dark and light which is why I believe these are my two most successful attempts of creating “simple complexity”.

Thus, through the use of paper I was able to further develop my skills of cutting and scoring whilst enhancing my ability of manipulating shadows in order to portray models in their best light.

Week 9 - 100 Word Statement

Assessment 3 – Developing Your Style 100 Word Statement

Simple Complexities

Throughout my experimentation process, I sought to explore the delicate nature of paper whilst using light and the intricacies of cutting techniques to develop my model making design practice. I decided to utilise the simple nature of paper to develop a more complex design which was further elevated through a variation of lighting approaches. This is expressed in the model provided as it was created using 2 pieces of paper, folding and scoring techniques coupled with the slice through approach to create precise and delicate linework. The use of shadows adds another layer to the model from both the interior and exterior perspectives.  Thus, the use of lighting greatly enhances the intricate detailing applied to the simplest of materials, paper.

Week 8 Photoshop Materials Task - Attempt 2

Week 8 In Class Photoshop Materials Task

I found this task to be very challenging as it was difficult to translate a model which was made in real life into something that was developed online and manipulated through various materials. the overlaying of materials was challenging in finding the correct angles which made it in proportion. I think that through this task i was able to further develop my Photoshop skills are utilise different material pallets to create a final design proposal.

week 8 online tutorial task - adding materials to fusion 360 initial models

This was actually a really fun task and allowed me to better by fusion 360 skills and showed me how they could be used in a practical sense. I was amazed by all the different material options and how easy it was to place them together and try different models. I really enjoyed the use of the glass and how the transparency and reflective nature worked really well with the structure. the use of the deep wooden colour in the third model also was very interesting to me and combined with the use of silver metallic colours complemented it really well. The use of the pinky copper tones also was very visually satisfying as well as the use of the cross roads background which picked up all the colours of the sunset.

Week 8 further work on models and the use of lighting

This week was quite challenging as there were lots of different tasks which needed to be completed all offering a differing skill set. I also needed to further my creative pallet regarding the physical hand made models which would become a large portion of the week 10 land in assignment.

Here are a few more models which I was able to construct this week which use the principal of light as well as structure and curvature to express a space which is grand and open.
